Section 8 waitlist in Solano County: is it open?

Not right now. As of October 4, 2026, every Section 8 (Housing Choice Voucher) waitlist we could confirm in Solano County is closed: Vallejo, Fairfield, Suisun City, Vacaville, and the county list for Dixon and Rio Vista. The steps

How to apply for Section 8

  1. 1

    Find your housing authority

You apply to the housing authority for the city where you live or want to live. Each one runs its own list, shown above.

  2. 2

    Watch for the opening

Lists open for a short window, announced in a public notice on the housing authority's own website. Vallejo's last window lasted two weeks.

  3. 3

    Apply inside the window

Use only the link in the housing authority's own notice. Some lists then choose applicants by lottery, so applying early does not always mean a better place.

  4. 4

    Keep your details current

HUD warns that not updating your mailing address, phone number or household size can get you removed from the list.

  5. 5

Prove it when your name comes up

The housing authority then checks your income, your household and any preference you claimed, such as veteran or disability. Keep proof of each preference.

The papers

What to have ready

  • A mailing address and phone that will still work. Lists can take years. If the housing authority cannot reach you, you can lose your place.
  • Your household details. Everyone who will live with you, with birth dates.
  • Social Security numbers. Online status checks ask for your birth year and Social Security number.
  • Proof of income. Pay stubs, benefits letters or anything else that shows what your household receives.
  • Proof of any preference. For example a DD-214 for veterans, or disability paperwork. You will be asked to prove it.

The questions

Section 8 questions

Is the Section 8 waitlist open in Solano County?

No list we could confirm is open. As of October 4, 2026, the Vallejo, Fairfield and Suisun City housing authorities say their Section 8 waitlists are closed, and the Vacaville and Solano County housing authorities list no open waitlist. Benicia does not post a status, so call 707-745-2071 to ask.

How do I apply for Section 8 housing?

Apply to the housing authority for the city where you live or want to live, during an open application period. The opening is announced in a public notice on that housing authority's website, and you apply through the link in that notice. If you are found eligible, your name goes on the waiting list.

How do I check my Section 8 waitlist status?

The Fairfield, Suisun City, Vacaville and Solano County housing authorities use waitlistcheck.com, where you enter your birth year and Social Security number. Vacaville and Solano County also take calls at 1-800-759-7159, and Fairfield at 1-888-442-0374. For Vallejo, use the status link on the City of Vallejo Housing Authority page or call 707-648-4507.

The Solano County Housing Authority, which serves Dixon, Rio Vista and unincorporated Solano County. It is run by the Vacaville Housing Authority at 40 Eldridge Avenue, Suite 2, Vacaville. Call 707-449-5675.

No one can say. HUD says reaching the top of the list depends on how many vouchers are available, when you applied and any preference you qualify for. Vallejo has about 2,358 vouchers, and about 21,000 people applied the time before last, in 2015.

What are the Section 8 income limits in Solano County?

Checked against official sources

Where this comes from. Checked October 4, 2026 against the City of Vallejo Housing Authority, the Fairfield Housing Authority, the Suisun City Housing Authority, the Vacaville Housing Authority and its Solano County Housing Authority page and housing FAQ, the Benicia Housing Authority, HUD and the Vallejo Sun. Pathfinders for Hope is not a housing authority. We cannot put you on a list or check your place on one. Waitlists open and close with little notice, so check the housing authority's own website.
